ALL ARTS Celebrates Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington

Experience the 2019 Essentially Ellington Competition & Festival: 15 high school jazz bands battle for top honors at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.

 

Includes exclusive interviews, backstage footage, performances from each high school band, the final awards ceremony, and a special performance featuring members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and notable alums of the Essentially Ellington program.

Program Descriptions:
The Competition
Fifteen of the best high school jazz bands in the country, literally dukin’ it out on stage! These young musicians from across the country travel to New York City to spend three days immersed in workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Hosted by Essentially Ellington alums, Roxy Coss and Patrick Bartley.

The Awards
One high school band will be named winner of this year’s competition, joining an exclusive roster of bands who have received top honors during the competition’s 24-year history.

Ellington Through the Ages
Wynton Marsalis, Rodney Whitaker, Wycliffe Gordon, and Dan Block lead an all-Ellington showcase with a group of young rising jazz stars. The band includes 14 of the best young professionals on the scene, many of whom came up through the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band program.

Beloit Memorial High School – Beloit, WI
Rio American High School – Sacramento, CA
William H. Hall High School – West Hartford, CT
Middleton High School – Middleton, WA
Garfield High School – Seattle, WA
Mount Si High School – Snoqualmie, WA
Roosevelt High School – Seattle, WA
Tarpon Springs High School – Tarpon Springs, FL
Foxboro High School – Foxboro, MA
