Alicia Keys, Donatella Versace, Lady Gaga, Chelsea Clinton, Whoopi Goldberg, Wilson Cruz, Geena Rocera and others came together Friday afternoon for a surprise concert outside of Stonewall Inn.
Hosted by Elvis Duran as part of Pride Live’s second annual Stonewall Day, the ceremony marked the 50th anniversary of the landmark riots that took place outside of the bar on June 28, 1969.
The ceremony was livestreamed for those unable to make the trek to the West Village.
“The Stonewall Riots are widely considered to represent the beginning of the fight for full LGBTQ+ equality,” said Havilah Clarke, Pride Live Board President. “While the world celebrates the 50th anniversary of that historic night, Pride Live will help continue that legacy in a way that best responds to today’s community and ever-changing world.”
The event also marked the induction of several celebrities, activists and community leaders to Pride Live’s “Stonewall Ambassadors.” Inductees include Hillary Clinton, Versace, Bozoma Saint John, Conchita Wurst, Samira Wiley and Stuart Vevers.
