New York Film Festival Announces Its Main Slate Selections for 2018

The New York Film Festival announced on Tuesday the main slate for its 56th annual edition. Thirty features from 22 countries are on the program, which runs September 28-October 14. Highlights include Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Shoplifters,” which won the 2018 Palme d’Or at Cannes, Alice Rohrwacher’s “Happy as Lazzaro” and Pawel Pawlikowski’s “Cold War.” Other filmmakers presenting work include Olivier Assayas, Claire Denis, Jia Zhangke, Joel and Ethan Coen, Frederick Wiseman, Tamara Jenkins and Jafar Panahi. Yorgos Lanthimos’s “The Favourite” will be screened on opening night and Julian Schnabel’s “At Eternity’s Gate” will close the festival. Alfonso Cuaron’s “ROMA” is pegged as the program’s centerpiece film.
